Most vessel sinks do not include drains since there are numerous finishes available. Ideally, you should choose a drain or mounting ring to match your faucet finish, and in a perfect world your faucet finish should match the rest of the accessories in your bathroom like the towel bars, cabinet pulls and door knobs etc.

There are two main styles of drains, popup drains and grid drains. A popup drain is a drain that can be closed to allow the sink to fill with water, it is lifted up or pushed down with your hand. Many of today’s popup drains have a spring loaded mechanism. The other style of drain is a grid drain, which is often compared to a shower strainer because it cannot be closed and thus always allows the water to drain.

Each style of drain is available with or without an overflow. Vessel sinks commonly do not have overflows, so make sure to check your sink specifications before ordering your drain.
